Completion

2009

Situated in the very heart of the city, and integral to the Queen Street Mall streetscape, the Q&A Building is a key part of the urban fabric of the Brisbane CBD.

This redevelopment of the most valuable retail real estate in the Queen Street Mall incorporates a new retail arcade system linking Queen, Albert and Elizabeth Streets in Brisbane City, as well as a commercial tower on the corner of Albert and Elizabeth Streets. The project required that the existing 30 storey office tower on Queen Street remain fully operational while the lowest 3 floors and the basement area were fully refurbished. A new 10 storey commercial tower was designed to accompany the ground level arcade. A range of upper and lower floor retail opportunities were also realised via an innovative facade system providing address and marketability to these areas. These retail opportunities are further realised through the street linkages, which successfully embrace the pedestrian movement through the ground-level of the building. The building’s colourful façade wraps around the base of the building, creating an engaging street-level experience. Whereas the textural exterior of the commercial tower helps to shade the offices and gives the building a distinct, recognisable external appearance. The Q&A building has become a central feature of the Queen Street Mall and continues to be a valuable addition to the Brisbane CBD. This project was undertaken by Justin O’Neill as Director of Arkhefield.
